  • Pudge is the most played hero: 2.7% of all picks

Every week we look at what normal players pick and what actually wins. This report uses OpenDota's sample of public ranked games from the last 7 days: about 3,885,989 games. The ranks go from Herald to Divine. OpenDota has no Immortal numbers.

The current patch is 7.41f, live since 2026-09-15. A pick means a player chose the hero. Win rate means how many of its games the hero won. For win rates we only count heroes in at least 0.4% of picks.

The rest of the top five: Outworld Devourer has 53.1%, and Riki and Phantom Lancer both have 52.8%.

What do players pick the most, and what do they avoid?

Pudge is the most played hero with 2.7% of all picks and 51.4% wins. Lion follows with 2.4% of picks and 48.7% wins. Then come Sniper and Rubick.

Juggernaut is fifth with 1.8% of picks and the best win rate of the five at 52.5%.

Who won and who lost the week?

We compared the win rate of the first three days with the last three full days. Oracle went from 49.2% to 49.7%. Spirit Breaker went from 51.9% to 52.3%, and Doom from 48.0% to 48.3%.

Three heroes lost ground. Dragon Knight fell from 53.0% to 52.5%. Kunkka went from 49.5% to 49.1%, and Ring Master from 48.7% to 48.3%.

How does the meta change from rank to rank?

Pudge is the most picked hero in all four rank groups. The best win rates change more. In Divine, Enigma leads with 56.5%, Bounty Hunter follows with 55.7%, and Outworld Devourer has 54.0%.

Some heroes win much more in Herald and Guardian than in Divine. Bristleback has 52.0% there and 45.4% in Divine. Shadow Fiend has 45.8% against 40.8%, and Underlord has 50.5% against 46.0%. Other heroes are the opposite: Enigma goes from 48.2% to 56.5%, Bounty Hunter from 49.5% to 55.7%, and Elder Titan from 48.0% to 54.0%.

3 tips to climb, straight from the numbers

Tip 1: In Herald to Archon, pick Wraith King. He has 56.2% in Herald and Guardian and 55.4% in Crusader and Archon, the best win rate in both groups. Spectre is a good second choice at 53.5% and 53.4%.

Tip 2: Look at your rank before you copy the Divine picks. Enigma, Bounty Hunter and Elder Titan win much more in Divine. Bristleback, Shadow Fiend and Underlord win more in Herald and Guardian.

Tip 3: Avoid the weakest heroes: Shadow Fiend and Nature's Prophet at 43.6%, Tiny at 44.7% and Batrider at 44.6%. Being popular does not mean winning. Lion is second in picks but wins only 48.7%.

What to remember

Everyone plays Pudge, but Wraith King wins. If you want to climb, pick the hero that wins in your rank, not the one you see in every game.
