  • dota2-tools.com has 31 free Dota 2 tools: hero lookups, calculators, 8 game timers and 7 Steam tools, no login needed.
  • The Roshan Timer tracks the Aegis and the 8 to 11 minute respawn window and beeps, even in a background tab.
  • The site runs on Valve's game data, OpenDota and Liquipedia. Same team as Dota2News, with Axe as the mascot.

Some questions come up in almost every Dota 2 game. When is Roshan back? Does this spell go through Black King Bar? What was my Friend ID again? dota2-tools.com answers them with one small tool each. It is the tool site of our network and an official partner of Dota2News. We are the same small team, so read this as an honest tour, not as a neutral review.

What is dota2-tools.com?

dota2-tools.com is a free toolbox for everyone who plays Dota 2. Each of its 31 tools answers one question fast and visually, without a login, and a short guide below each tool explains the details.

The idea started at the game. When we wanted to know something during a match, we opened wikis, forum threads and ten browser tabs. So the team built the tools they always wanted: one question per tool, the answer on one screen, on a phone as well as on a big monitor. The mascot is Axe. According to the about page, he tests every tool by hitting it, and if it still works afterwards, it goes live.

Which Dota 2 tools are on dota2-tools.com?

The tools come in three groups: game tools for heroes, items and fights, game timers for everything that respawns, and Steam tools for IDs, launch options and settings.

  • Game tools: the Hero Comparison, the BKB Checker for spells that go through Black King Bar, lookups for Aghanim's Scepter, Aghanim's Shard, talents and innate abilities, calculators for attack speed, armor, magic resistance, buyback and item timings, a Random Hero Picker and a Beginner Hero Finder.
  • Game timers: the Roshan Timer, timers for runes, stacks, the Tormentor, the Lotus Pools, neutral items and day and night, plus a Game Timer with every timing on one clock.
  • Steam tools: the Steam ID to Dota ID Converter, the Launch Options Generator, an autoexec.cfg generator, a list of console commands that still work, a Match ID Lookup, an hours played calculator and a check if your match data is public.

How does the Roshan Timer work?

You press Roshan killed, and the timer shows when the Aegis expires, 5 minutes after pickup, the earliest respawn after 8 minutes and the latest after 11. It beeps, even when the tab runs in the background.

The timer also knows the respawn pit: top during the day, bottom at night. It has a Turbo mode, counts the first, second and third kill, and gives you a line to copy into the team chat. Because it runs on your clock and not inside the game, you can move it by ten seconds in both directions when you pressed a little late.

Our favourite for long discussions is the Hero Comparison. It puts two heroes side by side at any level: health, armor, magic resistance, damage, attack speed, range and move speed. A button starts a pure right-click duel without spells and items, so you see who drops first. Axe is the referee.

Who is behind dota2-tools.com?

dota2-tools.com is run by the same team as Dota2News: Kevin and Claudio, two Dota 2 players from Germany, as part of the GamingTools network. You can reach the team at info@gaming-tools.com.

Kevin founded the site and builds the tools. He plays mid and offlane and still enjoys Warcraft III. Claudio works in data analysis and finance and plays carry. The about page also says how the tools are made: hero, item and patch data come from Valve's official Dota 2 data, match numbers from OpenDota, rules and lists from Liquipedia. If a number cannot be backed, it does not go on the page. Every tool is checked on desktop and phone before it goes live, and fixed when a patch changes something.

Do you build Dota 2 tools, write guides or stream? The about page has an open seat in the lobby and a way to send a guest post. dota2-tools.com is one of three partner sites: Dota2Freaks is the platform for ranks, MMR and heroes, and Dota2Arcana tracks the prices of all Dota 2 arcanas. Found a bug or miss a tool? Write to the team, Axe delivers every message.
