Dota 2 new Tidehunter Arcana: Maw of the Megalodon styles and how to get it

Valve released the Trove of Terror on 7 October 2026. Inside is Maw of the Megalodon, the new Tidehunter Arcana. It is the first Arcana ever for Tide. Valve says it comes with a new model, custom animations, effects, taunts and voice lines.

What is the new Tidehunter Arcana in Dota 2?

The new Tidehunter Arcana is called Maw of the Megalodon. It turns Tide into a giant prehistoric shark that drags the skeleton of Kunkka behind him instead of his usual dead fish.

Valve calls the corpse "one part security blanket and one part snack". It is a fun nod to the old rivalry between Tidehunter and Kunkka in the story of Dota.

What does the Tide Arcana change in the game?

The Arcana changes how Tide's spells look, not how they work. Gush and Anchor Smash leave flopping fish behind, and Ravage calls a horde of sharks.

• Gush and Anchor Smash: different kinds of flopping fish appear at the end of the spells.
• Kraken Shell: a torrent of water surrounds Tidehunter.
• Ravage: a horde of sharks over a large area.
• Extras: two new taunts, new icons, new animations and sounds, and a new cursor pack.

What are the three Maw of the Megalodon styles?

The Arcana has three styles: Maw of the Megalodon, The Hammer of Maelrawn and Unfathomable Hunger. The first one is the default, the other two unlock while you play.

Maw of the MegalodonThe default style: a great white shark.

The Hammer of MaelrawnA brown hammerhead. Unlocks after 1,500 heroes caught in Ravages that hit more than one hero.

Unfathomable HungerThe shark with Tide's classic green stripes. Unlocks after 2,500 fish eaten.

The counter comes with the Arcana and counts in your normal games. So the more you play Tidehunter, the sooner you see the other two sharks.

How do you get the Tidehunter Arcana?

You can only get it from the Trove of Terror treasure. It is an Ultra Rare drop: the chance is 1 in 100,000 on the first opening and grows with every chest.

On the 50th opening you are sure to get an Ultra Rare item. But this tier has two Ultra Rare items, the Tidehunter and the Drow Ranger Arcana. So the 50th chest does not promise you the shark. After an Ultra Rare drop, the count starts again.

You also get rewards on the way: a new Tormentor look after 12 chests and a new Roshan look with a matching courier after 40 chests.

Can you trade or buy the Tidehunter Arcana?

No. At launch, Maw of the Megalodon cannot be traded or sold on the Steam Market, so it has no market price. The only way is to open treasures yourself.
