How did GamerLegion beat Team Liquid at BLAST Slam VIII?

GamerLegion won two straight games in 41 and 40 minutes. Game two was one-sided: they won the kill count 39 to 16, and mid laner RCY went 24/4/27 over the series.

The match was a Bo3 (best of three: first to two wins). In game one, GamerLegion played on the Dire side, the team that starts in the top right of the map. They won a close game in 41 minutes and 12 seconds, with 27 kills to Liquid's 24.

RCY played Invoker in that game. Captain Bignum, a support from Ukraine, played Lion, and new carry Yuma played Lone Druid. Liquid answered with Lifestealer for their carry miCKe and Dragon Knight for stand-in mid laner MidOne.

Game two on the Radiant side was a beatdown. GamerLegion won it in 39 minutes and 51 seconds, and ended it with a net worth lead of 43,203. Net worth is all the gold a team has, plus the value of its items. Bignum even picked Windranger in this game.

Yuma, the carry (position 1, the player who farms gold and wins the late game), switched to Meepo for game two. Meepo is a hero that fights with copies of himself, so one player controls several bodies at once. It is one of Yuma's signature heroes. RCY's numbers for the whole series were the standout: 24 kills, 4 deaths and 27 assists, per Field Level Media. Over both games, GamerLegion scored 66 kills to Liquid's 40.

Who are GamerLegion?

GamerLegion are a North American team that entered Dota 2 in November 2025 by signing the Apex Genesis players. Their captain is Bignum, a support player from Ukraine.

The first lineup on November 11, 2025 was RCY, Fayde, Bignum, Speeed and Yamsun, with Mangusu from Romania as coach. The carry spot changed hands several times since then. Ghost left on September 5, and Yuma from Nicaragua joined on September 29, the first day of BLAST Slam VIII.

Before Friday, Liquid had beaten GamerLegion five times in a row since December 2025, per Hawk Live. The last one was a 2-0 at 1win Essence II on August 1, 2026.

Why is Team Liquid's exit from BLAST Slam VIII a surprise?

Liquid are one of the best-known teams in Dota 2. They won TI 2024, plus BLAST Slam VI and 1win Essence II in the 2025-26 season, and now leave BLAST Slam VIII after the group stage.

Liquid finished 5th-6th at TI 2026. Since then the team has changed a lot. Offlaner Wisper replaced Ace, and mid laner Nisha left to take a break, as we reported here. MidOne is playing as a stand-in, a player who joins for one event only.

Liquid opened with a 2-1 win over Yakult Brothers. Then they lost 2-1 to Aurora Gaming, which we covered here, and 2-0 to GamerLegion. That puts them in 9th-12th place with $11,500: $7,500 for the players and $4,000 for the team.
